Former Victim of Abuse Provides Support for Other Survivors through Natural Spa Products

by Editor on May 25, 2009

Alyssa Middleton knows firsthand the shock and pain of domestic violence and sexual assault. She lives today with an awareness of the lasting effects of that abuse. But she was determined to turn her painful experiences into something positive and to make a difference in the lives of others.

Middleton has, through her business, Vintage Body Spa, begun a charitable initiative called “Behind the Curtain” in an effort to raise awareness and funds in support of the victims of abuse. Why ‘Behind the Curtain’? According to Middleton, “Domestic violence, rape and sexual assault can happen to anyone, anywhere, across all socioeconomic and demographic groups. It could be your sister, your friend, your neighbor. Also, there is a tendency to hide abuse and not talk about it.  Victims hide behind a curtain of shame and fear, and often do not report the abuse or seek help”.

Through the initiative, Vintage Body Spa will educate customers and the general public to raise awareness and promote resources for victims.   A percentage of all sales will be donated to non-profit organizations providing services and support to victims of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault.  Customers also have the opportunity to donate Vintage Body Spa’s natural spa products to abuse survivors, such as women living in domestic violence shelters and in transitional housing.
