Yep, I’m a girl who wears glasses. I’ve been blessed with having to wear them since the age of ten. And, of course the more I wore them, the worse my vision got.

And, nope, I won’t get lasik surgery to correct my vision {even though I’ve entertained the thought}. My glasses are a part of me…at least for now. And, until I commit to correcting my nearsightedness and astigmatism naturally, I’ll continue to wear glasses.

Although I’ve been in the same pair of glasses for a few years now, I’m always on the lookout for unique frames, especially vintage ones. So, I was happy to come across a couple of websites that specialize in vintage or vintage-inspired frames.

Allyn Scura offers vintage glasses for women, men, kids, and even sells antique spectacles. I’ve ordered a couple pairs of frames from them recently. And, although I haven’t had my prescription placed in either of them yet, I’ll be rotating them consistently once I do.

And, doesn’t it get under your skin when you find a cute pair of frames for $50 and you take it to your local optician to have your prescription lenses put in and the lenses are $300. What an outrage!!!!

Well, I’ve discovered a solution for this: Warby Parker.

They are one of the best online options for really inexpensive frames with the prescription included. You can get the frame and prescription lenses for $95. Now that’s what I’m talking about: cute glasses with prescriptions lenses for a great price! Because there’s nothing worse than being price gouged on your prescription lenses.

All About a Superhero Chick

by Lynn on March 24, 2010

I don’t have my own personal interview this week, but I came across a video web series about a woman who wants to be a superhero. The woman’s name is Lisa, but the brains behind the character is Kai Soremekun.

As taken from WhoIsChick.com:

“CHICK is a comic drama that uses the superhero as a metaphor for exploring human potential. The web series follows the adventures of Lisa, a woman disillusioned with her life, as she sets out on a quest to realize what she believes is her destiny; to become a superhero.”

I love the idea! Shouldn’t we all should strive for a way to be superhuman in our everyday lives?

Whenever I come across a woman whose story inspires me, I always want to share it. So, I found an interview of Kai and her business partner online. Here’s Kai’s background story on how she started this web series…

And, here’s one of  the latest epidsodes that you can find on Chick’s YouTube Channel

You can go back and watch previous episodes on WhoIsChick.com and stay tuned as the plot unravels. It should be interesting!!!

Monday’s Pretty Inspiration: Outdoor Rooms

March 22, 2010

Maybe it’s the hint of warm weather we had last week in Atlanta or the first day of spring that has me wanting to sit outdoors in a beautifully-landscaped setting. Whatever the culprit, I’m in the mood for spring! And, I’m pretty certain you are too.
