If you’re one of the nearly 14 million Americans who is unemployed, you may feel that it’s very hard to find a silver lining amongst all the bad news. It may surprise you, but many job seekers (including those of us struggling in the Real Estate industry), have told me that being laid off has changed their lives for the better. And, I agree!

Here are a few ways to cope, if the constant reminder of the economy affects your outlook on life:

  • Set goals for yourself — Even if it’s just vacuuming the carpet, setting a goal every day and meeting that goal can help keep you stay busy, as well as, remind you of just how valuable you are. Try to do something to help your job search, try to do something for your family, and of course, take time to do a little something for yourself!
  • Take a chance — Maybe you’ve always wanted to work outdoors but never had the opportunity to do so. Perhaps you’ve dreamed of going to nursing school or becoming a Realtor, but never had enough time. Now is the perfect time to take a chance on a new career.
  • Volunteer — As bad as things may seem, there is always someone who has it worse than you. Volunteering not only helps someone in need, but it feels really good — and it looks great on your profile or resume. Who knows? You May even get your next job through the networking you do in your volunteer position.
  • Stay focused on what really matters — Keep reminding yourself that money isn’t everything, in fact, it’s the reason of why this we’re in this mess in the first place. Take stock of the things that really matter, like your friends and your family, and don’t be afraid to lean on them when things get tough. Once you see how many good things there are in your life you just might realize how lucky you really are!
  • Finally, take off your blindersTake the time to research what’s really going on in the world and who’s really controlling it. Get on the Internet (YouTube) and type in keywords like; “New World Order”, “Ron Paul”, and ”The truth about 911″. Educate yourself.  Knowledge is power, not money. Money can be taken away at anytime by YOUR government. It’s already happening and may only get worse.
